你们仇恨这个人
仅仅因为他
对生活和未来没有失去过信心
在最黑暗的年代，歌唱过自由
仅仅因为他
写下了一些用眼泪灼热的诗
而他又把这些诗
献给了他的祖国和人民
你们仇恨这个人
不用我猜想，你们也会说出
一长串的理由
然而在法西斯横行的岁月
你们却无动于衷

To Salvatore Quasimodo’s Enemy *

You regarded this person as your enemy
only because he had never lost
his confidence to life and the future  
and in the darkest years he still sang for freedom
Only because he had written so many poems
heated by his tears
and then he contributed them
to his motherland and the people
You regarded this person as your enemy
without any guess, you would say
that you had enough reasons
However, during the years when fascist ran amok
you all remained indifferent
