——献给我的汉族保姆

就是这个女人，这个年轻时
曾经无比美丽的村姑，这个
十六岁时就不幸被人奸淫了的女子
这个只身一人越过金沙江
又越过大渡河，到过大半个旧中国的女人
就是这个女人，受过许多磨难，而又从不
被人理解，在不该死去丈夫的年龄成了寡妇
就是这个女人，后来又结了婚
可那个男人要小她二十岁
最终她还是为这个男人吃尽了苦头
就是这个女人，历尽了人世沧桑和冷暖
但她却时时刻刻都梦想着一个世界
那里，充满着甜蜜和善良，充满着人性和友爱
就是这个女人，我在她的怀里度过了童年
我在她的身上和灵魂里，第一次感受到了
那超越了一切种族的、属于人类最崇高的情感
就是这个女人，是她把我带大成人
并使我相信，人活在世上都是兄弟
（尽管千百年来那些可怕的阴影
也曾深深地伤害过我）

那一天她死去了，脸上挂着迷人的微笑
岁月的回忆在她眼里变得无限遥远
而这一切都将成为永恒
诚然大地并没有因为失去这样一个平凡的
女人
感到过真正的颤栗和悲哀
但在大凉山，一个没有音乐的黄昏
她的彝人孩子将会为她哭泣
整个世界都会听见这忧伤的声音

It was this woman, a woman
who was a beautiful village girl when young
who was raped when only sixteen
It was this woman, who crossed the Golden Sand River and Dadu River
and later had traveled half of China
It was this woman, who suffered a lot but no one
had ever had a pity on her, even when she became a young widow
It was this woman, who later married again
though her second husband was twenty years younger than she was
she endure untold sufferings for him
It was this woman, who survived every kind of hardships of life
but she used to dream a world
where was full of sweetness, kindness, human nature and love
It was this woman, in whose arms I spent my childhood
and just from her and her soul that I felt a matchless holy feeling
which is beyond any race and belongs to all mankind
It was this woman, who brought me up
who let me believe : Everyone in the world are brothers
(Although for centuries those terrible shadows
have badly injured me )

That day she died, with an enchanting smiling face
The memory of time and tide became very far in her eyes
All this will be eternal
Although the land didn’t be touched to tears
or feel sad
for losing such a common woman
However, in Mt. Daliang, at a dusk without any music
a Yi child of her will shed tears for her
and the whole world will hear his sad voice
