This Land
I love this land deeply Not only because I was born in this land Not only because I will die in this land Not only because there are so many aged family trees and so many dear ones I know or don’t know died in this land one after another Not only because in this land there are a lot of wild rivers in which my forefathers’ blood flow day and night
I love this land deeply Not only because those dream-like ancient songs sound so sad in people’s mind Not only because in this land mothers’ caress is especially warm Not only because in this land we have the warm tile-roofed houses And the grandmothers alive or died who sit before the low wooden doors spinning cotton into yarn for us Not only because in this land the ancient millstones still sing at dusk And the golden and enchanting warmth flowing into each women’s swarthy breasts
I love this land deeply also because it is so ordinary No matter how I sing the praise of it, even with tears it always keeps silent like a rock Only when I feel sad and painful lying all alone somewhere in this land Can I feel this land ---- the father of the Yi nationality rocking a heavy cradle gently
